Detroit has always been a wonderful city to listen to. From the early cars scooting and sputtering up and down Woodward Avenue through to the unique Motown Sound, noise has been the essence of the Motor City.

Last Friday you could hear the sound of progress in Midtown. In the skies overhead an ear splitting jet weaved through the jutting skyscrapers, while raucous and bustling construction sites moved in perpetual motion below. It’s an exciting time, the road in the picture above – leading from the Heart Hospital construction through to the Ren Cen – flanked by Ford Field and Comerica Park – could become a carotid Detroit highway.

LAST MONTH the DMC Children’s Hospital opened a shiny new $43 million, 106,550-square-foot Specialty Center just a stone’s throw from the main DMC Campus. It was the first major expansion for the midtown campus in almost 30 years. The five-story structure offers 14 medical sub-specialties, infusion, dialysis and rehabilitation services and will be populated by around 235 employees.

IN SPRING 2013 a Whole Foods will open up in Midtown, on the northwest corner of Mack Avenue and John R. – it’s expected to be 20,650 square feet and open up approximately 70 hiring opportunities. The idea of an organic grocery store sitting in Midtown and selling local produce is exciting…

IN 2014 the new heart of Detroit will open up giving the DMC Cardiovascular Institute and Cardio Team One a new bespoke headquarters.

Midtown Detroit is an exciting place to be right now. Next time you’re driving by, roll down your car window. Listen. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of Detroit Rising.
